Mediation: A Quicker Cheaper & Less Adversarial Solution
What is Mediation?
Mediation is a process for facilitating and managing conflict resolution. Typically it involves the parties to the dispute meeting with the mediator in one or several sessions. The overall objective is to enable the parties to the dispute to reach their own mutually agreed settlement.
The role of the mediator is to manage the process, assist the parties in addressing the issues, and to maintain all records and when appropriate to record any agreement reached.
Mediation is an alternative to other more formal methods of dispute resolution and can be used for resolving most areas of conflict. The fundamental characteristic which distinguishes mediation from other conflict resoluion options is that any settlement is voluntarily made by the parties themselves and is not imposed by a third party.
